The origin of this application took place in China, in September 2016, with the launch of its original and local version, called Douyin, that is, vibrant sound, which even without expanding outside its country of origin, managed to reach more than one billion videos watched every day. In addition, the company responsible for the development of this application is ByteDance, created in Pekin in 2012, and which today is considered one of the most valuable private companies in the entire market. In addition, the company still has other successful applications, such as Toutiao, which is a news and personalized content application, and Feiliao, also known as Flipchat, which combines a messaging application with a social network, has also developed Topbuzz, a platform of content that was even launched in Brazil.

In September 2017, this same company launched the TikTok platform internationally, having a rapid acceptance and causing the Chinese market to explode with the services available on the platform. As far as the western market is concerned, the app took a little longer but became popular due to the replacement it made in relation to the Vine app, which had more or less the same proposal as TikTok, but was soon abandoned by the published one. , for greater interest in other networks, such as Instagram.

After the decline of Vine, another Chinese app was launched with a similar proposal, but with a greater focus on music, called Musical.ly, which was soon purchased by the company ByteDance, in November 2017.
