Meet The SisterWave App – Travel App For Women Only
Traveling can be listed as one of the greatest pleasures for many people. And when it comes to women, being able to travel and stay safely is even more important. Thinking about offering a kind of protective net to women who usually travel alone, designer Jussara Pellicano, after a trip to Thailand, saw her mind buzz with the most varied ideas after getting to know the digital nomad style.
A digital nomad is someone who travels around different countries, sometimes as a backpacker, doing temporary jobs to support themselves while traveling, either remotely or in person.
Jussara, who traveled for almost a year visiting countries in South America and Europe, had contact with several women backpackers with a common aspiration: to have a travel platform especially aimed at women.
That’s where the idea for SisterWave came from, a startup awarded by the World Tourism Organization and also by the Ministry of Tourism.
How does SisterWave work?
SisterWave ‘s main goal is to allow women around the world, backpackers or just interested in traveling safely, to connect, creating a safe network of self-protection.
The platform works similarly to the well-known Airbnb, which offers different types of accommodation in a variety of cities and countries, but with the differential of being aimed only at the female audience.
Women can offer accommodation in their own home to other female travelers, either to earn extra income or even for free. SisterWave seeks to minimize any type of obstacle faced by women who wish to travel, increasing their security, mobility and freedom.
Through the platform, women from different locations can connect to others in search not only of accommodation, but of services such as day-use, courses, varied tours, immersions and even in-person or online courses, in more than 150 cities in Brazil. .
In addition to all these services, SisterWave also allows its users to connect with activities in places compatible with their profile on the platform, in addition to being a good opportunity to meet travel partners, if interested. All this works as a kind of ‘match’ between the user’s profile and interesting destinations.
To use the SisterWave platform, you need to download the application and register. From there, it is possible to carry out searches according to the desired destination and experiences according to your profile.
The women who offer accommodation keep photos of the places up to date, as well as a description of what will be included in the stay, along with the daily rate or period. SisterWave does not charge intermediation fees. There’s just a very affordable annual fee to participate in the community, whether as a host or a traveler.
Currently, SisterWave has 22,000 registered users and about 450 female hosts spread across several cities in Brazil. The platform’s objective for 2022 is to expand its services to European countries.
