New team will unify all AI projects at Meta, and should bring new AI-based features to WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook Meta , the company that owns WhatsApp , Instagram and Facebook , will gain a new team focused on artificial intelligence .

The news was announced last Monday (27), in a post published by Mark Zuckerberg on Facebook. The idea is for this new team to develop new functions for the company’s applications, all based on AI. According to Zuckerberg’s announcement, initially these resources will be aimed mainly at creativity, but in the long term, this type of use should be expanded.

In the next lines, stay on top of what is known so far about Meta’s new artificial intelligence team and how it can impact the way you use WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook. It is worth noting that, for now, there is no date for the release of the news.

What is technology for you?

Meta’s artificial intelligence team will be commanded by the company’s vice president of AI, Ahmad Al-Dahle – who, before joining Zuckerberg’s company in 2020, worked for 16 years at Apple . One of the main objectives with this new team would be to unify all work related to artificial intelligence in a single area.

According to Zuckerberg, three areas of use for artificial intelligence in Meta will be explored: text, focused mainly on WhatsApp and Messenger; that of images, with new filter possibilities for Instagram; and video and multimodal.

After that first moment focused on creation resources, the company intends to explore artificial intelligence in other aspects – but, for now, Meta did not specify what type of services it would be applied to.

Meta’s investment in artificial intelligence follows the trend of other tech companies – which, after OpenAI’s ChatGPT boom , are now turning their attention to AI. A recent example of this is Snap , which, also on Monday (the 27th), announced that it is developing a ChatGPT-based chatbot feature for Snapchat . The novelty would only be available in a paid mode of the app.

The race for AI also involves other big names among big tech , including Google – which, in early February, presented Bard , an artificial intelligence service that, based on LaMDA, intends to compete with Bing with ChatGPT .

There is still no launch forecast for Bard, but the expectation is that the tool will still take a while to be released to the general public, especially after the chatbot made a mistake in a question asked in its promotional video. Learn more about the case here.

Finally, it is worth noting that, on the 24th of February, Meta released access to its new language model, LLaMa, for researchers – which, by all indications, works similarly to ChatGPT .
